Activity
Mystery Bag Place a familiar object (a small water jug) in a bag and describe the object using the 5 senses. Have students ask yes or no questions until they can identify the objects in the bag. Centers to Investigate Materials
Using the inquiry process students will investigate materials in centers. These centers are based on page 81 of the grade one curriculum guide. The inquiry poster from the grade one curriculum is introduced and we discuss how this will guide our learning in science. Provide 8x10 laminated copies for the centers. The inquiry process will be guided where they are given the questions in the inquiry and then follow through the process with some assistance. Using the 5 E Cycle
Through the use of the story book Muncha, Muncha, Muncha by Candace Fleming that is included in the Grade One Language Arts program, we made connections to science. Before reading the text we ENGAGED the students by exploring science materials and their use. After reading about how farmer McGreggor used materials in the story, students were given opportunity to EXPLORE and EXPLAIN in a variety of centers. We came together in a whole group discussion to ELABORATE and EVALUATE. For a detailed description of these activities and centers click the link below.
